Examples of CNC Machined Parts
Industry Applications of CNC Machined Parts
Precision CNC machined parts can be found everywhere. We have them in our homes, our places of business, transportation, in your doctor’s or dentist’s office. The acronym CNC could mean Canadian National Committee, China National Committee or perhaps Civilian Non-Commercial. In this case it stands for Computer Numeric Control. It is cool to visit a CNC precision parts manufacturer and realize, “so that’s how those things are made”. I often take what I have for granted in the fact that not much thought is put into the ways products or services I use are manufactured. This is probably true for many of us and that’s ok. As I learn more about CNC technology, I do get an appreciation of the products and industries served but also great respect for the technical knowledge used in CNC precision machining parts. I went recently to the optometrist and had a full eye exam. This process used four different tests machines that were highly accurate in the measurements taken and data collected. I became very grateful for the efforts not only of the optometrist and staff, but for those who manufactured each of the devices used to make sure my eyesight was in good health. The outer cases as well as many of the internal mechanisms all were done by the manufacturing of CNC machined components. Though I could expand with numerous days of listing what CNC technology produces, here are some great examples that you might or might not be aware of:
- Consumer Electronics: Cell phone cases and heat sinks are a couple of CNC machined components.
- Automotive Parts: Using materials like steel, aluminum and titanium, automotive parts include transmissions, engine blocks, gears.
- Aerospace Components: CNC precision parts for the aerospace industry include jet engine parts, turbine blades, panels, seat belt mechanisms, door locks, landing gear, airframe parts.
- Medical Instruments: Many surgical instruments made of tungsten and titanium are CNV machined for forceps, retractors, surgical knives, surgical scissors. A patient’s quality of life is greatly improved by CNC technology producing prosthetics out of Titanium and aluminum.
- Microfluidic Components: Microneedles for drug delivery systems, micropumps.
- Oil and Gas Industry: Gaskets are made to keep connections from fluids or gas escaping.
- Battery Energy: Battery tabs, connections and enclosures are made by the efforts of precision CNC machining parts.
- Plumbing: Pipe joints, valves and other connectors made by CNC.
- Commercial Housing: Parts like door hinges, cutlery, doorknobs, light fixtures, parts and components in stoves, washers, and dryers.
CNC precision machined parts are integral in our lives, though we may not be aware of it. We know products are made and used for our health, our mode of transportation or even for our enjoyment perhaps. The industry on CNC precision manufacturers is indeed one that has been relied upon for over 60 years now and seems to not have any limitations to what the next new technological advancement will be due in part to the professionals working in and supporting CNC precision manufacturing.
